Inter-war Polish Jewry will be remembered for an unusual flourishing of national culture characterized by richness and diversity in education, literature, jurnalism and theater.
There was an unparalleled number of Jewish newspaper - mainly in Yiddish, but also in Hebrew and Polish - including mùany local titles. Almost each town in Poland had a Jewish library, literary circles, and drama groups.
Having survived the war almost intact, the collection documents today the golden age of Yiddish theater. There were many professional theatres playing a mostly Yiddish repertoire, although translations of classics and Polish plays were also produced.
