Sotheby's New York. A price that stood at the low pre-sale estimate for this sculpture, which was executed in 1881, a few months after Rodin, produced his «Adam». Both were intended to stand on either side of «The Gates of Hell». This version of Eve is a bronze cast from the marble reduction. During the same sale Rodin's 74.9 cm high «L'Eternelle Idole», numbered 12 with the Alexis Rudier foundry mark but cast in 1978 by the Musée Rodin in Paris fetched US $ 431,500 (Inclusive of buyer premium). This sculpture had been conceived in 1889 and was one of Rodin's most successful and powerful groups. It explores the relationship between man and woman with great sensitivity, grace and emotive force. However such bid was not really justified as this was a late cast produced by the Musée Rodin. Buyers really ought to buy Rodin's bronze pieces produced during his lifetime and such assertion finds some relevance with lot 223 of that sale when Rodin's «Jeux d'Enfants», a 61 cm high marble sculpture executed circa 1886 fetched US $ 332,500 (Inclusive of buyer premium).
