Other casts are located in Zurich, at the Museum of Modern Art, New York and at the Fondation Maeght in Saint-Paul-de-Vence. This sculpture is the first of two versions, each of which was cast in an edition of 6 bronzes. In this sculpture, the figures stand on a slightly wider platform, and the artist's perception of space and movement is heightened by the three different directions in which the men are walking. It epitomises the style Giacometti developed during the years immediately following the close of World War Two, characterised by the tall, slender figures for which he is best known. During the same sale his “Bust of Annette IV”, a black patina 58.4 cm high bronze with the foundry mark Susse Fondeur Paris, executed in 1962 in an edition of six, sold for US $ 827,500 against a pre-sale estimate of US $ 600,000 to 700,000. |
