ANTIQUITIES NO LONGER SOLD IN LONDON
01 August 1997


Greek and Roman antiquities as well as Asian, Himalayan and Indian works will no longer be sold at Sotheby's London and all mixed-owner sales will be held in New York by October 1997. Sotheby's stressed that the change was not in response to the smuggling scandal exposed by the ITV television channel a few months ago but that it followed recently expressed concerns on issues of patrimony and heritage.
